PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria man faces a host of charges after he allegedly swindled customers of his home repair business out of tens of thousands of dollars worth of work.
Peoria Police say Nicholas Hamby, 37, was arrested Thursday and taken to jail on six counts of Home Repair Fraud, eight counts of Theft, and single counts of Aggravated Home Repair Fraud and Deceptive Practices.
Police say it started with a complaint last August of possible fraud involving Hamby and NJH Hardscapes, and culminated with at least seven more victims coming forward, claiming that Hamby took large amounts of cash, but didn’t complete the work – to the tune of $30,396.50.
Jail booking records, however, do not completely match the number of charges police handed to Hamby.
