PEORIA, Ill. – City leaders held a public meeting in downtown Peoria Thursday, giving people an opportunity to ask questions about changing Adams Street and Jefferson Avenue back to two-way traffic.
The $19 million project aims to reduce one-way traffic issues, including pedestrian safety and access to businesses in the heart of the city.
Gretchen Pearsall, Peoria’s director of strategic communications, fielded questions at Thursday’s meeting.
“We just want to make sure that our residents are using the courthouse, and they understand that they will still have access during the two-way conversion and make sure that [when] there are issues with parking and issues with sidewalks that they know where to go,” Pearsall tells 25 News.
The two-way conversion is expected to be completed by the summer 2026.
