PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria City Council approved a settlement Tuesday to avoid a lawsuit after a police squad car crashed into a McDonald’s restaurant just over a year ago.
According to 25 News, Peoria will pay the restaurant’s insurer nearly $75,000 to repair damage after an officer, called to a traffic stop nearby, lost control of the vehicle in icy conditions, crashing into the front of the McDonalds on N. Western Avenue on February 17, 2021.
The officer was hospitalized for minor injuries. Police said no one else was injured, though there was major damage to the front of the restaurant and its dining room.
