ATHENS, Ga. (FOX News) – A suspect has been arrested in connection with the suspected homicide of a college student in Georgia.
FOX News reports 26-year-old Jose Antonio Ibarra is charged in relation to the death of 22-year-old nursing student Laken Riley.
Riley’s body was found on the campus of the University of Georgia in Athens in a wooded area. Police say she was found unconscious with visible injuries.
Riley was reported missing on Thursday after not returning home from a morning run.
Police say Ibarra is from Venezuela, and reportedly may not be in the United States legally.
UGA Police Chief Jeffrey Clark said during a news conference Friday night that an investigation shows it was a “crime of opportunity,” noting that Ibarra and Riley did not know each other.
“This is an individual who woke up with bad intentions that day,” Clark said.
Ibarra is facing charges of malice murder, aggravated battery, and kidnapping.
