CAMBRIDGE, Ill. – It took a jury less than three hours Thursday to find a man guilty for the death almost two years ago of a Knox County Sheriff’s Deputy that ended a high speed police chase across two counties.
Court records in Henry County indicate Daylon Richardson, 24, was found guilty of two counts of murder in the death of Deputy Nicholas Weist.
Weist was putting out stop sticks just past the Knox/Henry County line in April of 2022 when Richardson’s vehicle struck and killed him, following Richardson leading police officers on a chase that started in Galesburg. Speeds reportedly exceeded 100 miles per hour before the chase ended on U.S. 150.
Sentencing is scheduled for May 24th.
The end of the three-day trial was marred by a shouting match between courtroom observers and Richardson.
