PEORIA, Ill. — One person was hospitalized after a fire broke out in downtown Peoria’s Twin Towers Sunday evening.
Fire Battalion Chief Michael Hughes said the fire started just after 5:00 p.m. on the 26th floor of the East Tower on SW Jefferson Street.
35 firefighters responded to the scene and the fire was extinguished quickly.
Two people were inside the condominium that caught fire – a man and woman. The man was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
After the fire was out, crews searched units in floors above where the fire took place and evacuated residents. They ventilated the building and shut off the sprinkler system as well.
Hughes said multiple units sustained smoke and water damage. 59 units were affected.
The Red Cross was called in to assist residents who were displaced.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
