GATES MILLS, Ohio – Eric Carmen, former frontman of the Raspberries and solo artist, has died at 74.
Carmen had the hits “Go All The Way” and “I Wanna Be with You” with the Raspberries in the early 1970s. The band was formed in Cleveland, Ohio.
“It is with tremendous sadness that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Eric Carmen,” his wife, Amy Carmen, wrote on the singer’s website on Monday.
“Our sweet, loving and talented Eric passed away in his sleep, over the weekend. It brought him great joy to know, that for decades, his music touched so many and will be his lasting legacy. Please respect the family’s privacy as we mourn our enormous loss. ‘Love Is All That Matters…Faithful and Forever.’
After leaving the Raspberries in the 1970s, Carmen went on to have hits of his own, including “Make Me Lose Control” and “Hungry Eyes”, in the 1980s. “Hungry Eyes” was a huge hit for Carmen and was featured on the “Dirty Dancing” Soundtrack.
