PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria firefighters were called to an apartment building in the area of W. Trewyn Avenue and Montana Street just before 8:30 p.m. Friday.
Fire Battalion Chief Michael Hughes said crews found heavy smoke coming from a second-floor window. They extinguished the fire in an upstairs bedroom in a matter of minutes.
The fire was contained to the upstairs bedroom, but the first and second floors suffered smoke and water damage.
Residents got out of the apartment building before crews arrived.
The Red Cross was called in to assist with temporary housing for two adults and a child.
A fire investigator determined the cause of the blaze was electrical.
Damages were estimated at $17,000.
No injuries were reported at the scene.
