PEORIA, Ill. – You’ve been warned.
The Peoria County Treasurer’s Office says annual real estate tax bills are going out this week, so you should receive yours any time now.
But, the office says with this year’s payments — due in installments on June 7 and September 7 — comes some changes.
Chief among them, the City of Peoria Treasurer’s Office will not collect property tax payments in person or by mail, due to an agreement between the city and the county, in an effort to streamline the process.
“Working in consultation with City Treasurer Stephen Morris, we discussed how to streamline property tax payments,” said County Treasurer Nicole Bjerke, in a news release. “We saw that the amount of money collected through City Hall has been decreasing on average by about 12 percent each year for the last four years, and we both agreed that removing the City Treasurer’s Office as a payment point will improve staff efficiencies and save taxpayers’ money.”
Payments can be made in the county treasurer’s office at the courthouse, online, or at many banks. The payment coupon is required with any in person or mailed payments.
You can also print a duplicate bill online beginning May 1.
