CAMBRIDGE, Ill. – The man accused of striking and killing a Knox County Sheriffs Deputy with his car while fleeing police in Galesburg will be back in court in two weeks.
Court records in Henry County indicate Daylon Richardson, 22, Granity City, appeared in court Monday for a preliminary hearing, but it was continued until May 23rd.
Nevertheless, a judge granted Richardson having a public defender. Attorneys were given seven days to file objections regarding a request by the media to allow cameras and microphones in the court.
Richardson remains jailed, facing two counts of Murder, Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Aggravated Fleeing, and Improper Lane Usage.
He allegedly killed Knox County Sheriffs Deputy Nicholas Weist as the deputy was laying out spike strips on U.S. 150 near the Knox/Henry County lane.
Weist’s funeral was Saturday in Galesburg, attended by hundreds of law enforcement officers and loved ones.
