PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria firefighters were called just before 7 a.m. Tuesday to a fire on S. Blaine Street, near W. Starr.
Upon arrival, crews found heavy smoke coming from the story and a half home as the residents evacuated.
Battalion Chief Scott Strum said heavy fire was found in the basement, but firefighters gained control of it, and extinguished the flames quickly.
Fire damage was contained to the basement area, but the whole home suffered extensive smoke damage.
A Peoria fire investigator called to the scene determined the cause of the fire was unintentional.
No injuries were reported.
Damage was estimated at $60,000.
The American Red Cross was called in to assist four residents with temporary housing.
