EUREKA, Ill. – It’s a seemingly pervasive scam, that’s apparently rearing its ugly head in the area again.
The Woodford County Sheriffs Department says residents have recently been reporting receiving calls from someone claiming to be from the sheriffs department, saying there’s a warrant out for that person’s arrest, and that they can pay by phone.
Officials say the number, through “spoofing,” comes up on caller I.D. as the Woodford County Sheriffs Department correctly at (309) 467-2375, but they would never call you and ask for payment over the phone.
They say don’t panic, hang up, and call the sheriffs department right away at the same above number.
