PEORIA, Ill. – The city of Peoria will soon start a new project where the main focus will be adding more parking in the Warehouse District.
Peoria Public Works leaders held a public hearing Tuesday morning at the Twin Towers for improvements to be made on Depot Street, between Persimmon and Oak.
City Engineer Andrea Klopfenstein says the project will address current and future parking needs, with growing development and housing in the Warehouse District and on SW Washington Street.
“As those residential buildings come online, and more and more people move into the Warehouse District, the needs for parking will change,” Klopfenstein said.
Klopfenstein says the project will add 290 public parking spots in the Warehouse District, among other improvements in the area. Those include a new road, lights, sidewalks, and trees.
The project is expected to start by the end of May, and cost the city around $10.5 million. It will be constructed in two phases, with full completion by the end of 2025.
