PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria’s Planned Parenthood facility is reopening Monday after damage from a firebombing last year.
Planned Parenthood of Illinois says the renovated facility on North Knoxville features state-of-the-art equipment, an education room, three exam rooms, and three ultrasound rooms.
Some of the services it PP says it will provide include STI testing and treatment, gender-affirming care, cancer screenings, birth control, HIV testing, and medication abortion care.
The facility was closed after the firebombing in January of last year
The suspect, Tyler Massengill, pleaded guilty to Malicious Use of a Fire and an Explosive and was sentenced to ten years in prison, along with paying $1.5 million in restitution to Planned Parenthood.
In a statement announcing the reopening, Planned Parenthood of Illinois President and CEO Jennifer Welch says the firebombing “robbed the community” of needed health care.
PP says the firebombing was an attack that is “part of an ongoing trend of violence and arson against abortion provides since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.”
