CHILLICOTHE, Ill. – A Memorial Day weekend tradition outside of Chillicothe returns this year, but with a new name and look.
The formerly known Summer Camp is now Solshine Reverie, running Thursday through Sunday at Three Sisters Park.
Solshine’s Director of Marketing Ian Strasser says people should experience this year’s festival with an open mind and try new things.
“Maybe instead of doing the exact same thing you’ve done every year, walk into a new area of the festival, checking out a new artist, opening yourself up to visiting some workshops,” Strasser said. “The thing that we want everyone to be able to experience the most at the festival is as much as they can.”
Solshine will still have a focus on music, with headlining acts this year including Goose, the String Cheese Incident, and DeadMau5. But Strasser says a bigger emphasis for Solshine moving forward will be on art.
Strasser says the Solshine tent that was a part of previous Summer Camps has been removed, with workshops that were hosted in it now spread throughout the festival. There’s also new areas hosting those workshops, including the ‘Movement Space’ and the ‘Creation Dome.’
“We want this to be something that people can roam around, experience new things, and most importantly, take something home with them,” Strasser said. “Whether that be the knowledge of a new practice from one of our many workshops, a new appreciation for the beauty of nature, being in the woods and outside for the weekend.”
Strasser says there will also be art installations of beloved mascots from the Summer Camp days, including a frog and a fairy.
