CHICAGO, Ill. – A watchdog group says proposed rate hikes from Illinois American Water are more than necessary.
In testimony filed with the Illinois Commerce Commission on Wednesday, the Citizens Utility Board says the more than $152 million request should be reduced by nearly $49 million.
CUB says it hopes to find at least seven million dollars more in reductions.
The utility made the request in January to help fund infrastructure improvements, and says residential customers would see a bill increase on average of about $24 a month.
CUB says Illinois American Water can reduce the request by eliminating executive bonuses, decreasing profit-rate for shareholders, and not implementing a two-step rate hike.
The ICC is expected to decide in December on the rate hike.
