PEORIA, Ill. – A man has been found guilty of First Degree Murder in the 2019 death of a woman he was the live-in caretaker for.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says that was the verdict against 46-year-old Dmitri Rogatchev Wednesday in the death of 75-year-old Sandra Jackson.
Prosecutors say the night of the murder, Rogatchev became enraged and hit and kicked Jackson over an argument about noise from a television, with Jackson suffering a fatal brain injury.
Rogatchev had told first responders in the early morning hours of December 3rd, 2019, that Jackson had drunk wine with her prescription medication earlier in the evening and fallen asleep.
But Jackson’s emergency room physician and forensic pathologist testified there was no alcohol in her blood, and the brain injuries she suffered could not have occurred from a fall.
An autopsy showed an injury each on the left side and right side of her head, which led to massive bleeding and pressure on her brain.
Rogatchev is set to be sentenced July 15th.
