WASHINGTON, D.C. (FOX News) — Americans traveling for Memorial Day Weekend should get ready to open their wallets.
The average price of gas has not only been rising, it’s broken a new record for 17 consecutive days, hitting an all-time high price of $4.60 on average on Thursday.
AAA said despite the high prices, travelers are not deterred.
39.2 million Americans are expected to travel by car and air this weekend, that’s up 8.3% from last year.
AAA said California has the highest average for regular unleaded in the country, at more than $6 a gallon. Oklahoma has the lowest price at just over $4.10 a gallon.
Here in Illinois, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas is $4.96. The average price in the Peoria-Pekin metro area is $4.82.
