PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria man, 35-year-old Christopher Melahn, was sentenced this week to two years in prison, followed by three years supervised release for possessing a firearm as a felon.
Co-defendant, 30-year-old Jamarcus Hollingsworth, was sentenced in January to nearly five years in prison and three years supervised release on the same charge.
At sentencing, the government established that last May, Hollingsworth, also a felon, was in possession of firearms and tried to sell a pistol in Peoria.
The Peoria Area Federal Firearms Task Force arrested both Hollingsworth and Melahn at a hotel on W. War Memorial Drive, finding them in possession of a firearm.
Both men were indicted last June.
Hollingsworth pled guilty in September 2023, and Melahn pled guilty a month later. They’ve both been in federal custody since their arrests in May 2023.
The statutory penalties for possessing a firearm as a felon are up to 15 years’ imprisonment and up to three years of supervised release.
