PEORIA, Ill. — Fire crews were called to a home on W. Marquette Avenue overnight in Peoria.
Fire Battalion Chief Larry Carter says just before 11:30 p.m., firefighters encountered a fully involved story and a half home with fire showing through the roof.
Crews immediately went on a defensive attack, Carter says. Multiple hose lines and master streams were brought in to get the fire under control in about 30 minutes.
The home was vacant, though there had been reports of possible squatters inside.
Extra companies were called in due to the size of the fire. The home was a total loss and was demolished.
A fire investigator and arson dog were on-scene, but the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
No firefighter injuries were reported.
Total damage was estimated at $80,000.
