PEORIA, Ill. – The largest fireworks show in Illinois will also help spread the message about what is great in the Greater Peoria area.
The annual show on the riverfronts of Peoria and East Peoria “Choose Greater Peoria Red, White, and BOOM!”, sponsored by the talent attraction and retention initiative started in May of 2023. Leaders with the initiative talked about what is planned for 2024’s show at the Gateway Building on Thursday.
The initiative is backed by the Gilmore Foundation, and President Laura Cullinan says “Red, White, and BOOM!” can spread the word about what makes Peoria great.
“There’s so much good here, we just need to keep talking about it,” Cullinan said.
This year’s show will feature an asterisk that highlights a theme of “there’s more here” in the Greater Peoria area. And Cullinan says the people can also build connections and relationships that help improve the quality of life in the area.
More than 200,000 people are expected to attend the show this year, which will be the largest fireworks show in the state of Illinois. The fireworks display is also in the top 2% of the entire country.
WMBD Radio’s Greg Batton says it’s a great family event.
“200,000 people enjoying their families, enjoying their day, enjoying their country, celebrating the birth of our country and the celebration of the Fourth of July, nothing is truly more American than that,” Batton said.
Batton says more than 20 experts in crowd control and safety this year at the show to help keep the event safe.
Misty Klobucher of the Choose Greater Peoria initiative says people will also be able to participate in a contest before “Red, White, and BOOM!” to win VIP tickets to the event. She says people can participate by submitting pictures, videos, and stories of what makes the Greater Peoria area a great destination, or how they celebrate the Fourth of July in the area.
More details of the contest area expected to be announced soon on the Choose Greater Peoria Facebook and Instagram pages.
