PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria Police say an 8-year-old boy suffered life-threatening injuries after being shot in the head Sunday afternoon in the East Bluff.
Officers arrived just before 5:00 P.M. to the area of Kansas and Indiana, finding the boy outside a home with an apparent gunshot wound.
An investigation revealed that 26-year-old Micah Stitts and a 17-year-old male were reportedly present when the shooting occurred.
The 17-year-old reportedly fled the scene and was not located.
25 News reports Stitts allegedly left the weapon unattended.
Stitts was arrested and charged with Endangering the Health and Life of a Child, as well as an Active Warrant.
Stitts was taken to the Peoria County Jail.
The shooting remains under investigation.

The shooting happened on E. Kansas Street just before 5 p.m.
PPD Spokesperson Semone Roth says the boy was shot in the head.
No further details have been released. Police are still investigating.
