PEORIA, Ill. – A newly reimagined event is happening at Peoria’s Glen Oak Park on Wednesday, July 3rd, called ”The Streets Belong To Me: Glen Oak Park”.
Peoria Park District’s Emily Cahill says there will be a lot of fun for all ages.
“We’ll have bouncy houses and face painting, live entertainment and fizzy drinks. Really, we just want people to come out and have a good time. To me, that’s really what this whole Fourth of July holiday weekend is all about,” Cahill says.
“The Streets Belong To Me: Glen Oak Park”, will have an earlier start, and one more big change.
“We needed to make sure that it was very clear, and the messaging was clear, that this was not going to roll into fireworks…because this year we have repurposed those dollars to facilitate this event, as well as another event we are planning in September around Founder’s Day, celebrating the 130th anniversary of the park district and Glen Oak Park,” Cahill says.
As part of Wednesday’s event, families will receive discounted admission ($3 per person, per facility) to the Peoria Zoo and the Peoria PlayHouse Children’s Museum.
Activities aren’t just for families with little kids, there’s plenty for bigger kids to do too.
“In fact, as part of a survey we did with Peoria Public Schools students, to try to get some feedback on what kind of things to offer, they helped us establish rules for the day. So, when you come into the event, you’re going to see rules that the kids helped to write, that really help set the expectations for how people should behave in the space, how everybody can have a good time,” Cahill says.
Come join in the fun at Glen Oak Park from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
