PEORIA, Ill. – The founder and CEO of Reditus Labs in Pekin has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for plotting to defraud his former employer.
25 News reports Aaron Rossi was also ordered to pay more than $3 million dollars in restitution and fines.
He pleaded guilty in February to one count of mail fraud and one count of filing a false federal tax return.
Federal prosecutors say Rossi confessed to taking money from Central Illinois Orthopedic Surgery in Bloomington, and using it to buy luxury items including clothes from an upscale men’s store, a high definition big screen television, a luxury vehicle, and a private plane for a bachelor party.
Chief U.S. District Judge Sara Darrow rejected a tearful plea from Rossi to let him go home to be a husband and father.
Rossi is also facing multiple federal charges in an alleged scheme to defraud the state and healthcare providers connected to COVID-19 tests administered by Reditus. He is alleged to have received payment for services not performed.
Rossi pleaded not guilty on Monday to those charges.
