SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Illinois State Police and local law enforcement officers are beefing up patrols throughout the long 4th of July holiday weekend.
Illinois State Trooper Jayme Bufford says they’ll be watching you.
“During the day our main focus will be making sure people are wearing their seatbelts, not driving distracted, speeding, and then of course at night we’re more focused on driving under the influence. Now, that’s not to say we don’t do that during the day, but that’s kind of our main focus at night,” Bufford says.
Trooper Bufford says it’s important to have a plan before you celebrate the holiday.
“If you plan on consuming alcohol at whatever gathering you’re at, just make sure you designate that sober driver, or there are so many ride-shares out there now…so make sure you plan ahead,” Bufford says.
To report suspected drunk drivers on the road to police, dial 9-1-1 immediately.
Illinois State Police and local law officers will be enforcing the “Click It, or Ticket” and “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaigns throughout the holiday weekend, ending on Monday, July 8.
