PEORIA, Ill. – A man is dead after apparently being shot early Thursday morning in Peoria.
Peoria Police Spokesperson Semone Roth says officers were conducting a traffic stop on W. Gilbert Avenue around 1:45 a.m. Thursday, when they heard gunshots nearby.
While searching the area, police found a wrecked car near the intersection of W. Forrest Hill and Sterling Avenues. An adult male with an apparent gunshot wound was inside the vehicle.
PPD says the 44-year-old man, who has not been identified, was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The victim’s identity and cause of death will be released by the Peoria County coroner.
Police have no suspects and are now investigating the incident as Peoria’s seventh homicide of the year.
