PEORIA, Ill. – After clinching its second playoff berth in three years, Peoria’s semi-pro soccer team will get to stay home in their chase for a championship.
USL League Two on Thursday selected Peoria City to host a pod of opening weekend Central Conference playoff games next week.
Three games will be played in total. Two quarterfinal games will take place on July 19th, with Peoria City playing the night game at 7:30 P.M. The first game will be at 3:30 P.M.
The winners of Friday’s games will play July 21st at 1:30 P.M. in a conference semifinal.
Hosts beyond the first two rounds of games will be selected after first round results.
Peoria City President Jim DeRose says the organization is “ecstatic” to host playoff matches.
“This is an incredible honor bestowed upon us in just our third year as a club in a league with such great tradition and history as USL League Two. We would also like to thank USL League Two leadership for selecting Peoria City as a host, and we will work diligently to provide a memorable and exciting environment for the fans and players,” DeRose said.
The Carp clinched a playoff spot after a 2-2 draw this past Saturday against the Des Moines Menace. Both Peoria and Des Moines will represent the Heartland Division in the playoffs.
Peoria City last clinched a playoff spot in 2022, the team’s first season of play. The run was short-lived, after a first-round loss to Chicago FC United.
Tickets for each day are available now. Peoria City says all three matches will be streamed through Clutch Sports Media.
