WASHINGTON, D.C. – Lawmakers across the political aisle in Illinois are reacting to the shooting at former President Trump’s rally in Butler Pennsylvania Saturday afternoon.
Democratic U.S. Senator Dick Durbin says “political violence is never acceptable.” He also thanked law enforcement for keeping those in attendance safe, and is keeping Trump in his thoughts.
Republican Congressman Darin LaHood says he is also keeping President Trump in his thoughts, and the country in his prayers.
LaHood says he is “grateful” for the Secret Service and law enforcement who acted quickly to keep people safe.
Democratic Congressman Eric Sorensen says he is “deeply concerned” with the incident, and denounces “all political violence.”
Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker says “violence is never the answer in our democracy” and is “praying” for Trump’s recovery.
Political violence is never acceptable.
