PEKIN, Ill. – A 69-year-old Pekin man convicted of fatally shooting his wife in 2021 is awaiting sentencing in September.
On May 17, 2021, Tracie Turnbow, who was 59, was found with gunshot wounds and screaming for help on her neighbor’s porch near Summer and Derby Streets in Pekin. She died the next day.
Kenneth Turnbow was arrested for his wife’s death. She had filed for divorce in June of 2020, according to Tazewell County Court records.
Last month, a jury found Kenneth Turnbow guilty of first-degree murder.
On Wednesday, Pekin Police Chief Seth Ranney released a letter from the county’s chief prosecutor praising the department’s investigation.
“This conviction was the direct result of your department’s exemplary investigation of this offense including, but not limited to, the extraordinary effort by you and other officers to locate the concealed murder weapon in the defendant’s residence,” wrote State’s Attorney Kevin Johnson.
“Successful prosecutions would not be possible without the willingness to obtain all relevant evidence necessary to secure a conviction. Your department’s actions in this matter are very much appreciated by this office, the citizens of Pekin and, most importantly, the family and friends of Tracie Turnbow,” Johnson said.
Turnbow’s sentencing is set for September 6.
