SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Illinois’ unemployment rate in June was 5.0 percent, according to the Illinois Department of Employment Security. The rate is a 0.1% increase from May.
IDES says the industry sectors with the largest over-the-month included: Private Education and Health Services, Trade, Transportation, Utilities and Government.
Industry sectors with monthly payroll declines included: Leisure and Hospitality, Information, Professional and Business Services.
“Illinois’ labor market remains strong with consistent growth in payroll jobs,” said Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity Director Kristin Richards. “DCEO will continue to provide its world-class workforce, employers and job seekers with tools and resources needed to contribute to the state’s growing economy.”
The state’s jobless rate was 0.9% higher than the national unemployment rate reported for June of 4.1%.
Illinois’ June unemployment rate was up 0.7% from a year ago when it was 4.3%.
