PEORIA, Ill. – A petition to detain a man accused in the shooting death of 18-year-old MikeQuese Taylor was granted by a Peoria County judge at a detention hearing Monday.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says 18-year-old Korion Hopkins is charged with First Degree Murder in connection to the April 30th shooting in the East Bluff. He will remain in jail until his trial.
Taylor was found with a gunshot wound to the chest and later died at a hospital.
Prosecutors say surveillance video shows Taylor outside by his car when two males wearing masks came up and shot him.
The video reportedly shows 20-year-old Messiah Carpenter in possession of the suspect vehicle in the case, with video and cell phone records showing Hopkins and Carpenter traveling together at the time of the shooting in the vehicle.
Carpenter was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder in the case back in May.
Hopkins was already in the Peoria County Jail on separate charges, and was also charged in a shooting incident in Chillicothe on April 28th.
