PEORIA, Ill. – A man will spend the rest of his life in prison for his role in the shooting death of a Manual High School student three years ago.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says 22-year-old Gary Irby was sentenced Friday to natural life in prison for the murder of 17-year-old Jerry Snipes, Junior.
Irby was found guilty in May for the October 2021 murder, where Snipes was shot ten times, most of those into the back of his body.
Prosecutors argued for the life sentence because of the premeditated and cold nature of the murder, along with Irby’s violent history.
21-year-old Jeremy Moore Junior was sentenced to 80 years in prison in February for his role in the murder.
20-year-old Tyranique White, charged with First Degree Murder and Aggravated Battery in relation to the shooting, is awaiting her next hearing later this month.
