PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria man will spend 70 years in prison after pleading guilty to the death of his daughter two years ago.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says 27-year-old Shamari Williams will have to serve 100% of his sentence after pleading guilty in May to First Degree Murder in the death of two-year-old Emorri Green.
At Friday’s sentencing hearing, Emorri’s mother held up a smiling picture of her, and called Williams “pathetic.”
She continued to say Emorri did not deserve the treatment from someone who was supposed to protect and love her.
Prosecutors argued for a maximum sentencing, saying that Emorri’s final moments were a nightmare caused by her father.
A forensic pathologist testified that Emorri had patterned bruising and abrasions consistent with abuse on her face, chest, and torso.
Williams testified that he spanked Emorri 15 to 20 times with a belt for urinating on a couch, but the pathologist refuted that, saying her injuries could have only been caused by a punch or kick.
