If you are looking for a cat or kitten, now is the time to adopt one.
Peoria County Animal Protection Services Director Becky Spencer said through Saturday, September 21, the $75 adoption fees are being waived for all felines at the shelter.
“Adopters can come in, go through the normal adoption process. And, if they’re approved, the animals can go home with them with no adoption fees.”
The Peoria County Shelter currently has about 40 cats and kittens available.
“During these months, our cat intake numbers triple. In the winter, we’re getting 3-4 animals a day. Just yesterday, we took in 14 cats,” Spencer said.
As part of the fee-waived adoptions, cats and kittens will be available to go home same-day to approved adopters.
All animals adopted from PCAPS are spayed or neutered, microchipped, given their first round of vaccines and a general dewormer, and are sent home with a free 30-day trial of pet insurance.
PCAPS suggests that all new pet owners schedule a visit with their veterinarian within 10 days of adoption.
