WASHINGTON, Ill. – Washington’s annual BrownFest is back this weekend.
The fundraiser is held in honor of Washington Basketball Coach Kevin Brown, who lost his fight with Glioblastoma several years ago.
Kevin’s wife Jodi Brown tells WMBD’s “Greg and Dan” about his diagnosis.
“At 49, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor…we didn’t know anything, Glioblastoma happened to be what it was…not the diagnosis you want to get. He fought for 10 months before surgery, coached the basketball season, and unfortunately passed in June of 2019,” Brown says.
Glioblastoma is a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer that can also affect the spinal cord.
Kevin’s family and friends started the KB Strong Foundation to raise awareness about the disease, and to raise money for research.
Saturday’s 6th annual BrownFest is a celebration of Coach Brown’s joy for life. The event is being held at Washington’s Countryside Banquet facility, beginning at 4 p.m.
“We always have a great silent auction, we have some raffles that we’re doing. Stone Cold Cowboys will perform, and then we’ll do some announcements at 7:30 to bring people up to speed, and then we’ll have dueling pianos after that,” Brown says.
Tickets are $30.00 and are available in advance, or at the door.
