PEKIN, Ill. – Pekin’s 52nd Marigold Festival officially gets underway Monday.
Amy McCoy, with the Pekin Chamber of Commerce, tells WMBD’s “Greg and Dan” about the festival’s theme this year.
“Our theme this year is Marigolds Rockin’ the Bicentennial, a nod to Pekin’s musical history…some of the great recordings that were done near Pekin,” McCoy says.
The first clue in Pekin’s Marigold Medallion Hunt will be given out Monday at noon. The hunt is always held on the Monday before Labor Day.
Long time Pekin resident Gary Gillis has been in charge of Marigold Medallion Hunt for years. But, he’s not the one hiding it, so don’t follow him around.
“Long ahead of time, I take my designated hider out to the site, and I kind of dress incognito,” Gillis says.
Clues will be given daily until the medallion is found. The person who finds it wins $1,500 cash.
Gillis will serve as Grand Marshal of this year’s Marigold Festival. The parade is set for Saturday, September 7th at 10 a.m.
