Illinois’ unemployment rate hit a historic low last month.
The August jobless rate came in at 4-percent…down from 4.2-percent in July. That is the lowest monthly rate on record for Illinois, and a good sign, according to Illinois Department of Employment Security Spokesperson Sam Salustro.
“We’ve continued to see good, strong job growth over the past number of months now. And, we’ve seen an increase in the labor force at the same exact time. And, when you continue to grow jobs, and people keep finding jobs, your unemployment rate drops.”
Sulustro adds, “We continue to see strong growth in education and health services. Over the past three months, we’ve seen strong growth in government and financial activities areas.”
Illinois jobs fell slightly from July to August, but are up by 65,000 compared to August 2018. The national unemployment rate is 3.7-percent for August.
