PEORIA, Ill. – Two Peoria men were sentenced to federal prison this week after pleading guilty to distributing drugs.
36-year-old Melvin Turner was sentenced Thursday to 10 years in federal prison, followed by a five-year term of supervised release.
Prosecutors say Turner was responsible for distributing nearly 137 grams of ice methamphetamine.
During his arrest in February, officers located a Glock and a 30-round magazine in his possession. When Turner was arrested, he had three prior felony convictions.
Turner pleaded guilty in May to two counts on the drug charges and one count on the weapons charge.
25-year-old Avione Queza Maurice Parks was sentenced to ten years in prison on Wednesday, will also have to serve five years of supervised release after his prison term.
Prosecutors say Parks sold six ounces of meth over the course of three transactions in January and February of this year.
He pleaded guilty in May after being arrested in late-February.
The Department of Justice says Parks had three previous felony firearm offenses and one controlled substance felony, and previously served time in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
