UPDATE – PEORIA, Ill. – Two juveniles are in custody in connection with an alleged carjacking in Peoria that resulted in two crashes.
Peoria police say officers responded to the 5300 block of W. Haymeadow Place around 10:20 p.m. Friday on a report of a carjacking.
Officers located the vehicle’s owner who said he has approached by two individuals who were masked and armed with handguns who took off in his car.
The stolen vehicle was later located in the area of Timberedge Drive and Orange Prairie Road. The vehicle drove off at a high rate of speed as officers approached.
The vehicle, while being pursued by police, crashed at the entrance ramp to eastbound I-74 off War Memorial Drive.
One of the suspects, a 14-year-old boy, was taken into custody at the scene. A 15-year-old boy ran from scene but was later apprehended in the vicinity of the crash.
Officers found one firearm at the crash scene. While searching the area where the 15-year-old ran from police, another handgun with an extended magazine was located.
The 14-year-old was arrested on charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a firearm under 21, armed robbery and armed vehicular hijacking.
The 15-year-old was arrested on charges of aggravated fleeing and eluding, speeding, reckless driving, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a firearm under 21, armed robbery, armed vehicular hijacking, obstructing and several traffic violations.
Both were transported to a hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. They will be taken to the Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center when they are medically cleared from the hospital.
While Illinois State Police troopers were responding to the incident, a state police vehicle was involved in a crash with another vehicle near War Memorial Drive and Scenic Drive.
Peoria firefighters utilized the “Jaws of Life” to extricate one of the occupants of the vehicles involved in the crash.
All individuals who were injured in this crash were transported to a local hospital with what are described as non-life threatening injuries.
Illinois State Police is conducting the investigation into the crash involving the trooper.

PEORIA, Ill. – A police chase resulted in a crash in Peoria involving a state police squad car.
The accident around 10:45 p.m. Friday at Scenic Drive and War Memorial Drive had one person trapped in one of the vehicles with fire fighters using the Jaws of Life to get the person out, according to Peoria fire Battalion Chief Josh Martin.
25 News reports the crash may have occurred before another accident on westbound I-74 at War Memorial, and both crashes may be related.
A supervisor with the city’s Emergency Communications Center said a state trooper and two other people were transported to local hospitals. Their conditions are not known.
