PEKIN, Ill. – A Pekin man had pleaded guilty in connection to the death of his infant daughter from November of 2023.
In a statement, Tazewell County State’s Attorney Kevin Johnson says 20-year-old Hunter Waters agreed to plead guilty to First Degree Murder in the death of nine-week-old Addison Waters.
In exchange for the plea, charges of Aggravated Battery to a Child were dropped. Waters must serve 70 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, and serve the entire term.
Addison Waters was taken to a Peoria hospital on November 26th, 2023, with injuries that an autopsy revealed were broken ribs, kidney damage, a lacerated liver, pools of blood in the cranial area and spinal column, and a skull fracture that exposed her brain.
Addison was declared brain dead two days later.
Prosecutors testified at a detention hearing last December that Hunter Waters allegedly lied to investigators about how Addison was injured, but later confessed to handling her roughly, which included having “struck her head against his bedroom door.”
They also testified that Hunter Waters had a history of not being able to control his temper.
