Birmingham, AL (Fox News) – A mass shooting at a popular nightlife district in Birmingham, Alabama has left four people dead. Fox News reported at least 18 others are injured.
The shooting occurred in the 2000 block of Magnolia Avenue in the Five Points South area near the University of Alabama, Birmingham.
Two men and a woman were dead at the scene while a second woman died at the university’s hospital, according to the Birmingham Police Department via an email to Fox News Digital.
The suspects remain at large.
“Detectives believe the shooting was not random and stemmed from an isolated incident where multiple victims were caught in the crossfire,” police said in the emailed statement.
Eight victims were transported to the hospital with injuries police said ranging from non-life threatening to life threatening.
Police said it is not clear who the suspected gunmen were targeting.
The Five Points South area includes entertainment venues, restaurants and bars and is often crowded on Saturday nights.
Birmingham Police Department Public Information Officer Truman Fitzgerald said police have reached out to the FBI and ATF for assistance.
