PEORIA, Ill. โ As we move into Fall, are Covid-19 numbers on the rise?
Dr. Brian Curtis, with OSF HealthCare in Peoria, says not necessarily. He says the virus has definitely hit an endemic phase.
โWe did maybe see a spike a little earlier in the month, but it then kind of tapered offโฆwhich is kind of typical of viruses as they tend to kind of ebb and flow. And, as they kind of modify themselves, and a new strain emerges as the virus evolves itself, we will see spikes,โ Curtis says.
Dr. Curtis says most Covid-19 symptoms arenโt nearly as severe now.
โWe have not really seen a large influx of patients into the hospital, which is good. But, we do have some (cases) that are presenting to our ambulatory settings,โ Curtis says.
Covid-19 symptoms can mimic the fluโฆwith a cough, runny nose, sore throat, body aches and a fever. But, Dr. Curtis says some peopleโs symptoms are so mild, they might not even know that they have the virus.
โThe blessing now is that the virus isnโt as debilitating as it was even two years agoโฆwhen there were huge spikes putting people in the hospital,โ Curtis says.
If you havenโt had a Covid booster lately, getting the updated Covid-19 and Flu vaccines at the same time is a good idea, Curtis says, to keep you and your family healthy, especially during flu season.
