Peoria native and State Representative Ryan Spain (R-Peoria) has been appointed as the House Republican Conference Chairman.
With this new position, Spain will be a part of House Republican Minority Leader Jim Durkin’s (R-Western Springs) leadership team.
“I had expressed interest in serving in an additional leadership capacity,” Spain said. “And, I really feel honored that he thought that I would be a great fit.”
The primary duty for the Conference Chairman will be an organizational role for meetings of the Republican Conference, as well as helping to coordinate the legislative agenda.
“It involves chairing our Caucus meetings, helping to set the strategy for priorities for legislation that we are advocating for,” Spain said. “For items that we are worried about that we think may tip the state in the wrong direction.”
Spain said his priority remains making sure economic growth returns to the state.
“Because one of the things we know for certain, our communities can not be successful if we do not return jobs and economic growth to Illinois,” Spain said.
Spain was elected to the House in 2016, after serving more than 10 years on the Peoria City Council.
