Peoria Public Schools board President Dan Adler announced Monday that he will not seek re-election.
Adler has served as a representative for District 3 of Peoria Public Schools since July of 2015.
Adler said he had thought about this decision for a while.
“I have two kids in middle school right now, a sixth-grader and a seventh-grader,” Adler said. “And, we were getting ready for the start of the year, [and] trying to get them back into a routine. I realized how much I was missing out on Mondays and other nights of the week.”
During his term as board president, Adler hopes he brought some positive elements to the board.
“There are issues that everybody gets emotional about. We’re talking about kids. There’s nothing not important that we’re talking about. I hope I brought a little positivity, process, and discipline to the board,” Adler said.
Adler said he will miss those late night board meetings and the team.
“I do love being in the thick of it, and working through different issues that come up,” Adler said. “I love our team. I think they’re very aggressive, and initiative, [and] creative.’
Adler’s last day is scheduled to be July 1, 2020.
The board is now seeking a new president and representative for District 3 of Peoria Public Schools.
Anyone who wants to campaign for the position is required to be at least 18 years old or older and a U.S. citizen. They must also be a registered voter, not a school district trustee or treasurer.
Nominating petitions are due Oct.28 through Nov. 4.
