PEORIA, Ill. – The Greater Peoria Auto Crimes Task Force is receiving some help from the state.
Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias announced Tuesday around $1.5 million dollars in grant funding for GPACT.
The grant will help GPACT expand operations and conduct specialized investigations into vehicular hijacking, auto theft, recyclable metal theft, and insurance fraud.
In fiscal year 2024, GPACT conducted 339 investigations and recovered nearly 250 vehicles at a value of around $3.7 million. The organization also helped area agencies in recovering six additional vehicles.
