PEORIA, Ill. – Two people have been arrested in connection to the Sunday night fatal shooting of a 10-year-old in Peoria.
Peoria Police say 33-year-old Maurice Sargent was identified as the suspect in the death of Lamar Johnson, II, of Springfield at the CityScape Apartments. Johnson died from a gunshot wound to the chest.
Sargent was taken into custody after a traffic stop Tuesday at Farmington and Sterling in West Peoria.
He was arrested on charges of First Degree Murder and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by Felon.
Peoria Police say a 14-year-old male was also identified as a suspect in the case. He was arrested Wednesday on a charge of Attempted Armed Robbery.
Police say the investigation is ongoing.
