PEORIA Ill. – The man suspected of shooting and killing a 10-year-old in South Peoria, over the weekend, has been charged with First-Degree murder.
33-year-old, Maurice Sargent, was charged Thursday, for killing 10-year-old Torres Lamar Johnson II, Sunday night, just after 7:30pm — at the CityScape Apartments.
Police say the shooting stemmed from a “drug deal went wrong” — involving Sargent and two juveniles — which ended in gunfire.
Johnson was not involved in the drug deal, he was simply walking by when he was struck by a bullet, shot by Sargent.
The State filed a Petition to Detain Sargent, which will be heard by a judge tomorrow.
He will remain in custody until then.
