PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria woman has pleaded guilty in connection to the apparent overdose death of her infant son from this summer.
Court documents show that 19-year-old Zenai Wolford pleaded guilty Thursday to one count of Endangering Life or Health of Child. Wolford had initially pleaded not guilty in August.
She was sentenced to three years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, but received credit for 74 days already served.
Wolford’s son, Kaine, was taken to a local hospital in the early morning hours of July 26th. Police say a plastic bag that reportedly had ecstasy in it was found in Kaine’s crib and had been chewed on.
Wolford had reportedly admitted to buying the drugs and storing them in her bra, and claimed the bag fell in the crib when she bent over to put Kaine to bed.
The death was ruled a homicide by Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood.
