PEORIA, Ill. – The Peoria City Council kicked off budget discussions Tuesday night, but also approved the Peoria Civic Center’s 2024 annual report and 2025 budget.
Civic Center General Manager Rik Edgar says it’s been a banner year…with an adjusted gross income of $7.3 million.
“Last year we had $6.9 (million), before that we’d never had a year above $6.2 (million). For two years in a row now, we’ve done over $13 million in ticket sales. We just missed a half million guests last year, and our concessions were at a record of $3.8 million,” Edgar says.
The Peoria Civic Center also contributed over $500,000 in taxes to the city this year.
Edgar says with significant renovations now complete in Carver arena, he’s excited for guests to see them for themselves.
“We have a new sound system, score boards, and ribbon boards. We’ve put up over 50 screens in the arena to help you get to your next spot, and there’s nowhere in the arena during a Bradley or Rivermen game where you won’t be able to watch the game if you’re waiting in line, or talking to a friend on a concourse,” Edgar says.
Edgar adds, “We think coming in…it looks cleaner, it looks newer, and even the bathrooms have been renovated…it’s going to be a better guest experience.”
Peoria’s proposed budget for FY 2025 is currently $282.2 million, with $126.8 million going to the general fund. It fully funds public safety pensions, and closes out $47.1 million in American Rescue Plan funding.
Peoria’s final budget is expected to be adopted at the City Council’s November 12 meeting.
