PEORIA Ill. – A staple in the Peoria community was honored Thursday morning.
Pastor Richard Hammonds, who founded the Gospel Experience Church and has been serving the Peoria area for more than 45-years, had an honorary street naming ceremony, in North Peoria.
Northeast Madison Avenue is now Honorary Pastor Richard Hammonds Lane.
Peoria Mayor, Rita Ali, made another announcement as well…
“With the powers vested in me, as Peoria mayor, I hereby declare today, October 17th 2024, as Pastor Richard Hammonds day in Peoria, Illinois,” Mayor Rita Ali said.
Pastor Hammonds first moved to Peoria when he was just 18-years-old, attending Bradley University.
He says, he hopes his story inspires locals to chase their dreams.
“So I say to people now, whatever your goals are, whatever you plan to do – get up and do it. You can have that accomplishment,” Pastor Richard Hammonds said.
Now, he will forever be celebrated, on the road where he started a community.
